September Update: Grove Street Walk Audit and Question 7

Hello, Worcester Strong Towners! Our next general meeting is Saturday, September 12th, at 4 PM. At this meeting, we will perform a walk audit down Grove Street to Lincoln Square and back (1.3 mi). We’ll meet at Fuel America Café (100 Grove St) at 4 PM.

Thank you to everyone that attended our August meeting. We picked up litter along Southbridge Street with Sustainable Worcester and Ipickupworcesterlitterverywell. All told, our volunteers collected twenty-eight bags of trash, equal to 290.5 lbs!!

Action Items

Question 7: November’s ballot Question 7 is Legalize Starter Homes! This is an initiative to update zoning laws across Massachusetts to allow single-family homes on smaller lots than may be the case in most communities. See this Ballotpedia page for a quick rundown on what a “YES” and a “NO” vote would mean.

Door Knocking: To participate in door knocking for this question, please RSVP for the October 17th knock!

Learn More: Check out the official Strong Towns podcast with an interview with Andrew Mikula from the Legalize Starter Homes initiative.

Community Bike Ride: Join us on September 19th at 10 AM for a community bike ride on the Worcester portions of the Blackstone River Multi-Use Trail. Stay connected to our Instagram and Discord for more information as the event gets closer!

Sustainable Worcester: Sustainable Worcester shares resources on how to live sustainably in our city. That includes a calendar of events! You can check out their website here, and their calendar at this link!

City Council: Worcester’s City Council’s next meeting is September 8th. You can view the upcoming agendas and all of its other files here (just look for City Council under “Meeting Title” on the left).

Call to Action! We will be compiling the information we’ve received from walk audits into a tangible report. If you’re interested in helping to write walk audit reports, please contact Will Talbot on Discord or at wmtz15@gmail.com!
