August Update: Litter Clean-Up and Out to Lunch

Hello Worcester Strong Towners! Our next general meeting is Saturday, August 8th, from 4 PM to 6 PM. This meeting, we are planning to do a Worcester litter clean-up with Ipickupworcesterlitterverywell and Ella from Sustainable Worcester. We’re planning on walking the same route as we did for our walk audit, which ran from Worcester Common and down a portion of Southbridge Street. We’ll meet at the intersection of Southbridge and Southgate Streets.

Action Items

Out to Lunch: If you’re in the downtown area on July 29th, August 12th, or August 19th from 10 AM to 3 PM, come down to the Worcester Common! Worcester Strong Towns will have a table at “Out to Lunch,” a weekly event during the summer with a variety of vendors, live music, and information booths. Come support us and all the local businesses and community organizations that make our city tick!

Worcester Bike Party: On the last Friday of July and August (July 31st and August 28th), Worcester Earn-a-Bike is hosting the Worcester Bike Party! Meet at the Worcester Common at 8 PM. The June event was a smash hit! All riders and bikes welcome.

Sustainable Worcester: Sustainable Worcester shares resources on how to live sustainably in our city. That includes a calendar of events! You can check out their website here, and their calendar at this link!

Regional Pedestrian Plan: The Central Massachusetts Regional Planning Commission (CMRPC) is beginning work on updating its Regional Pedestrian Plan. Take its survey to make your voice heard on your walking experience in Central Massachusetts!

City Council: Worcester’s City Council is not meeting until August 18th. You can view the upcoming agendas and all of its other files here (just look for City Council under “Meeting Title” on the left).

WRTA Bus Tracker: If you didn’t know, the Worcester Regional Transit Authority (WRTA) released an updated bus tracker online. Use it here.

Call to Action! We’re putting out feelers for any Strong Towns members who would be open to going to City boards and commissions meetings – especially those most related to Strong Towns interests (such as the Planning Board or the Zoning Board of Appeals). Let’s get that conversation started on our Discord!
